The office of Continuing Professional Development at USC Mann provides pharmacists with continuing education programs and skills needed to provide excellent patient care. Our programs are tailored to the lifelong learning and advanced practice needs of alumni, preceptors, and other supporters (voluntary faculty, QSAD members).
We offer live and online training opportunities with active learning methods including workshops, roundtable discussions, and case studies.
This ACPE-accredited knowledge-based online one-hour course is aligned with AB 2194, a crucial component addressing cultural competency training requirement effective January 1, 2024, specifically tailored for Pharmacists in California.

The preceptor development continuing education course offerings provides pharmacists with the skills and knowledge for providing effective rotation experiences as preceptors. Participants will gain an understanding of the principles of precepting, such as building relationships, evaluation techniques, and goal setting. All USC preceptors should begin with the course Preceptor Survival Guide to Professional Experience Programs, followed by the other course topics such as the Pharmacist’ Patient Care Process, Cultural Competency in Pharmacy and Burnout Management and Prevention. Upon completion of these courses, pharmacists will be better equipped to mentor and teach the next generation of pharmacists.

Advanced Practice Pharmacist Certificate in Comprehensive Medication Management

USC Mann Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM)-based advanced practice pharmacist certification program prepares participants to identify, stratify, evaluate, and manage high-risk patients with poorly-controlled chronic diseases such as metabolic syndrome, asthma/COPD, and upper respiratory infection. Applying Ryan’s Law: The Compassionate Use of Cannabis in Health Care Facilities

This educational session provides participants with the tools necessary to
implement institutional policy in compliance with Senate Bill 311, “Compassionate
Access to Medical Cannabis Act or Ryan’s Law” in health care facilities.

Contraception for Pharmacists
ACPE-accredited application-based continuing education program
- 2.5 hours of continuing education credit
This online course was developed in response to California Assembly Bill 1114 that allows pharmacists to bill Medi-Cal for furnishing hormonal contraception and providing counseling on safe and effective contraception as authorized in Section 4052.9 of the Business and Professions Code. Smoking Cessation for Pharmacists

- 2.5 hours of continuing education credit
This program has been designed to prepare pharmacists to serve as reimbursable providers of nicotine replacement therapy and counseling to facilitate smoking cessation. The course begins with a review of the latest CDC guidelines and CA Board of Pharmacy AB1114 legislation. USC International Travel Medicine Review Certificate Course

This program has been designed to assist pharmacists in expanding their knowledge and skills related to improving care provided to patients traveling internationally. The pharmacist is in a unique position to help patients traveling abroad to fully prepare them by recommending appropriate immunizations, medications, and over the counter products, as well as to provide them with travel advice.
