Michael Jakowec, PhD, has joined the faculty of the USC Mann School’s Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy as professor of clinical pharmacy (teaching track). Previously, Jakowec was professor of research neurology at Keck School of Medicine of USC.
Jakowec has taught in USC Mann’s undergraduate program since 2017 and has played a role in developing several popular courses: RXRS 202: Comparative Neuropharmacology: A Kaleidoscope of Experiences, RXRS 403: Neuropharmacology in Health and Disease and RXRS 405: Breaking Brains: The Pharmacology of Addiction.
The Jakowec lab investigates mechanisms of action and therapy development in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases.
At USC Mann, Jakowec will also develop graduate-level courses in the clinical and experimental therapeutics program.
Jakowec graduated from USC in 1990 with a PhD in molecular biology. After multiple postdoctoral fellowships at Yale University and Columbia University and several years as research scientist at the Parkinson’s Institute, Jakowec returned to the Keck School of Medicine of USC faculty in 1999.
