In the News: USC Pharmacist on ABC7 Eyewitness News about OTC Narcan

Naloxone nasal sprays, commonly known as Narcan, will soon be available over the counter to provide accessible emergency treatment for opioid overdoses.

The opioid reversal drug Narcan will be available to consumers over-the-counter at local pharmacies, gas stations and other retailers starting September 5. Michelle Hormozian, PharmD, APh, clinical coordinator at USC Medical Plaza Pharmacy, talked to ABC7 Eyewitness News about the drug’s availability.

“If anyone in your immediate circle takes opioids, you should pick up a box. For everyone else, keeping Narcan on hand is like having a fire extinguisher,” Hormozian said.
