Dang Appointed to CDC COVID-19 Immunization Work Group as APhA Liaison

The work group reviews data and helps inform CDC’s vaccine policy, including recommendations for use of COVID-19 vaccines in the U.S.

Richard Dang, assistant professor of clinical pharmacy at USC Mann, has been appointed as the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) liaison to sit on the CDC’s Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) COVID-19 Work Group.

In this role, Dang will provide pharmacist clinical subject matter expertise, perspectives and insight related to the management of COVID-19 and immunizations. The work group reviews data and helps inform CDC’s vaccine policy, including recommendations for use of COVID-19 vaccines in the U.S.

The work group will review safety, efficacy and immunogenicity data for COVID-19 vaccines, particularly in vaccine candidates authorized, approved, or in clinical trials in the U.S. Apart from reviewing disease epidemiology and assessing the benefit-risk balance, the group will also develop COVID-19 vaccine policy options.

Dang is the immediate past president of the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) and helped lead USC Mann’s partnerships in the Los Angeles City COVID-19 Vaccination Program.
