Dear Friends of USC Mann,
Last month Reuters ranked USC No. 8 in its annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Universities. The article highlighted new research from USC Mann — in addition to the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC and the USC Institute for Creative Technologies — as examples of Trojan innovation. As one of the only pharmacy schools on a major health sciences campus in a major city, we are proud to be part of the advances and innovations of our university. Overall, USC researchers received $764 million in sponsored research funding during the 2017-18 academic year.
This fall 2019 edition of our newsletter illustrates a few of the many ways that the school opens new paths forward in clinical care, pharmaceutical science and education. We recognize the work of researchers such as Bangyan Stiles, Tiger Zhang, Dana Goldman and Darius Lakdawalla. We also welcome our newest faculty members and celebrate initiatives —such as the California Right Meds Collaborative — that are pushing the field forward in California and across the country. In addition, we share a glimpse into our ongoing renovations in Seaver Hall, which exemplify our commitment to providing our students with state-of-the-art facilities and new spaces where they can collaborate and thrive. Finally, we recognize the achievements of our faculty and students who are advancing pharmacy in their respective areas.
We are working every day to transform the face of pharmacy by leading the convergence of science, healthcare and policy. However, our school’s leadership in the continued expansion of the role of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists in enhancing health could not happen without your partnership. Thank you for your support of all our endeavors.
Best regards,
Vassilios Papadopoulos, DPharm, PhD, DSc (hon)
Dean, USC School of Pharmacy
John Stauffer Decanal Chair in Pharmaceutical Sciences
