The global pharmaceutical industry — a heavily regulated field with complex legal requirements — has experienced significant job growth during the past two decades.
With the industry expected to continue to expand as AI increases the pace of drug development, law graduates with a background in science and science graduates with an understanding of legal issues will be well-positioned for a range of future careers.
Starting in fall 2025, Law and Biopharmaceutical Sciences, a 20-unit minor program, will be offered to USC undergraduates. “This minor is a truly interdisciplinary program, offering students the opportunity to gain perspectives in legal studies and pharmaceutical sciences that will benefit them in future careers across a number of potential healthcare fields,” says Daryl Davies, associate dean for undergraduate education at USC Mann.
Covering a range of topics including patent law, regulatory compliance, ethics and intellectual property, the program will be offered as a collaboration between the USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the USC Gould School of Law.
