The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) University of Southern California chapter was named 2018-2019 AMCP Chapter of the Year at the AMCP NEXUS 2019 Meeting in National Harbor, Maryland in October.
The national award aims to recognize all that AMCP student chapters accomplish on a year-to-year basis, and serves to encourage and inspire chapters to strive for new, innovative managed care student programming ventures.
“USC AMCP has taken the national organization’s vision and thoughtfully produced an array of educational, networking and service events, giving students not only exposure to managed care pharmacy, but also professional and personal development,” notes third-year pharmacy student Jessica Pham, 2019-20 president of USC AMCP. “Through this, we hope to foster opportunity for future leaders in the field of pharmacy.”
Student chapters across the country were evaluated on the overall quality and impact of three self-submitted events and a short essay that detailed how each chapter advanced the mission and vision of AMCP throughout the year.
USC AMCP was recognized for organizing the following programming: Medicare Part D Enrollment Series, the 16th Annual Building Bridges Networking Event and the 11th Annual AMCP Western Regional Conference.
The recognition, out of more than 60 chapters nationwide, follows USC’s third-place national chapter finish at last year’s event. The University of Minnesota’s AMCP Chapter came in second and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s AMCP Chapter took home third place.
The award recognizes strong, visionary student leadership and fully engaged faculty, as well as alumni support and mentorship, said Edward Lieskovan, PharmD ’85, one of the chapter’s four advisors.
AMCP is a national professional association dedicated to increasing patient access to affordable medications, improving health outcomes, and ensuring the wise use of health care dollars in all fields of pharmacy. As a student chapter, AMCP is dedicated to providing students with opportunities for professional development and ways to explore traditional and non-traditional pharmacy.
