USC Mann is committed to providing access to health and wellness services through our community outreach events including health fairs, health education sessions, medication review sessions, clinic sessions, and immunization programs. These health services are provided free-of-charge to all members of the community by our student pharmacists.
Under the guidance and supervision of faculty and preceptors, students provide body fat analysis, vaccinations, medication reviews and a wide range of health screening services, including body fat, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, osteoporosis and more.
Students also provide health education on a variety of topics, including asthma and diabetes, emergency planning and poison prevention, mental health, self-care and non-prescription therapies, smoking cessation, sleep hygiene and more.

“We want student pharmacists to have a service mindset as they become health care professionals. Health fairs provide a valuable opportunity for learners to engage with community members and to apply the knowledge, skills, and behaviors learned in the program. Through these events, we hope to increase access to care for community members and have emerging pharmacists learn about the community member’s needs and provide individualized care to each participant.”

“I appreciate being able to connect with and educate community members during our health fairs. Sharing the knowledge we gain as students and seeing the impact this knowledge can have on others helps me appreciate our role as future pharmacists. It motivates me to want to learn more, serve my community at every health fair I attend and look forward to future opportunities to continue doing so.”

“This year, I participated in several health fairs as APSA’s co-director for Operation Diabetes. Being able to serve diverse communities allowed me to enhance my communication skills while applying the knowledge gained from my didactic coursework. My favorite part about participating in health fairs is getting to meet different people and to learn about their unique experiences. It’s incredibly fulfilling to make a positive impact on their health and well-being.”

“I believe that participating in health fairs as students is vital for our academic, professional, and personal growth. Health fairs are often where we, as students, first get to apply what we learn in the classroom and experience the positive impacts we can have on the communities we serve. Personally, I have gotten the opportunity to hone in my lab skills on real people and learn to quickly assess and answer patient concerns in real time.”
