The USC Mann School will offer Community Health Worker Certificate: Health System Focus, a 27.5-hour structured continuing education program, at the California Pharmacy Exchange and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Annual Meeting and Exposition, taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
In October 2024, the California Department of Health Care Services updated Medi-Cal policy so that pharmacies can now serve as supervising providers for Community Health Workers (CHW) and bill for covered CHW services including health education, health navigation, screenings and patient support.
The hybrid program, which meets all state and national competency and skills requirements, bridges the gap between medical care, pharmacy, social work and community health, including theoretical training and hands-on experiences.
In the live sessions led by Michelle Chu, assistant professor of clinical pharmacy, and Jessica Abraham, director of population health, participants will engage in role plays in specific scenarios, including comprehensive medication management check-in, vital signs measurement and insulin administration. Participants will also learn relationship-building and motivational interviewing techniques.
Successful completion of the program provides 27.5 hours of continuing education hours, including 20.5 hours of home study and seven hours of live training. Participants are expected to complete the curriculum and obtain the certificate within four months.
The cost of the program is $599. Register today: https://cvent.me/ValbAK. Questions? Contact the USC Mann Office of Continuing Professional Development at pharmce@usc.edu.
